About APAV
What we do

Emergency rescues
We rescue runaway or abandoned animals. First we look for the owner of the animal. If this is found, we will check whether the owner meets the requirements for the return of the animal. If he/she does not meet these or if there is no owner, we take the animal into our shelter.

Medical care
We take all of our animals to the vet when they are sick. Injured found animals are of course given medical (emergency) care.
Our animals are chipped, vaccinated, castrated or sterilised at the vet.

Admitting abandoned paws
We take in animals in need of help - no matter what condition, size or breed.
We clean and check the condition of the dog and cat enclosures so that our animals find a clean and comfortable place.

Mediation & Adoption
We are looking for loving and permanent homes for our protégés.
We take photos and short videos of all animals to promote them and encourage their adoption.
Dogs and cats that are looking for a home can be found here.

Castration/Sterilization
Castration in animal welfare is an important measure to counteract the overpopulation and suffering of (stray) dogs and cats.
All animals at our shelter are castrated/sterilised to avoid unwanted litters and further abandonment.

Education & Information
We talk to people to make them aware of the situation of animals and to prevent animal suffering before it occurs. Animal welfare begins in people's minds.
We carry out solidarity campaigns to collect donations for our protégés and to inform.

Volunteer Allrounder
"I'm Narcisa's husband and not only take care of the dogs on Sundays, I also rescue them and I'm there when I'm needed. If something is broken at the shelter, I fix it. I'm always working to improve the facility, so that the dogs and cats are more comfortable."
Bruna
Foster care and volunteer
"I not only help out in the shelter, but I'm also a temporary foster family for the dogs that need it most: I take in sick dogs, older dogs and dogs that are very afraid of people and prepare them for their future life in another family. At my home I socialise them with my dogs and cats."
Narcisa
Founder and Chair of APAV
"With the foundation of the association, a dream has come true for me. I have always had a great passion for animals. I work full-time in the association and take care of all the tasks that arise in the shelter and the association. I am looking forward to hearing from you, reading about you or welcoming you to the APAV."

Enthusiastic little helper
"I'm 6 years old and I love animals. Most of all I enjoy the part of taking the photos and videos of the animals for the mediation. I have great fun showing which dogs and cats like to be with children. I am very happy that I can also help the little darlings to find a nice home."
Jorge
Volunteer vet
"I take care of the veterinary care for the dogs and cats in the shelter. If possible, I bring them into my house so that I can take better care of them. Together, my wife Bruna and I take in some of the dogs that need the most help until they find a family."
